I had this issue come up yesterday and cannot get past it. I tried to save several times to see if would help. I am on day 80. Finally saving up fuel to start flying and cant now. The last couple of days after upgrade i was experiencing error while trying to save with shelter and sleeping bag both. Then would have to start back from previous save. Now this not interacting. Hopefully will be a fix soon.
I’ve played this for more than 5 in-game days in a row, and have observed no cycling of the bug, it remains that items at higher elevations don’t work, and items at low elevations do, and it is not fixing itself after 5 days.
im confused on why you need 4 smokers? for me I can cook 4 pieces of meat on 1 smoker and they literally spoil before I ever need to use more than 2 of them.???
you’re not smoking them, if they spoil, you’re just cooking them. You need to leave them on for longer, with the fire burning, and then they changed to Smoked cooked meat

I have created 0 custom islands on this save file as well, and now im at day 11 and counting without issue. I have also not plantedanythwing either, just gonna live off the lands for as long as possible to see if the bug triggers at all, when’s my dev cheque coming in for all my testing @Claire lol??
Change view setting to third person for workaround
I have a feeling this glitch is much worse than we think and the devs gave no idea how to fix it. Honestly, screw this new online update. It’s not even fun with a second person like this. I say revert the entire update

@Arkham_Pharaoh what you are describing is another bug that appeared in most recent update. If your inventory is full and you even look at (highlight) an object that you can pick up, the game will beep and say ‘inventory full’ at top of screen. Even if you aren’t trying to pick it up.

I am not sure the smoker is the cause as others have not placed one. But if your save is still going ride it out and see what happens?
Btw yes the other comment was right…meat smoked on smoker shouldn’t spoil. You are likely not leaving it on long enough or not leaving fire going long enough. First ding is cooked which you can tell by hovering over the meat. It will say ‘cooked medium meat’ etc. Leave the fire cooking them. You will get another ding after a bit and the meat will now read ‘smoked cooked medium meat’ or something along those lines. Smoked will definitely be the first word. Then you are safe to take the meat and pack away in crates. It won’t spoil.

Some people have reported that turning off volumetric clouds, wildlife and reverting to 3rd person prevents issues from taking place. Not sure myself, as my save is already bugged, but thought Id throw out the FYI 
It reverts the bug. Exit to main menu, change view to third person, enter game.
I’m on Xbox1 S and can confirm from a game saved just prior to the glitch starting this seems to work.
Yeah I tried all that, it still seems to plauge my game.
well dang, I must have had a brain fart when removing the meat and not actually focussed on the words, I will test, when I make a smoker again, for now riding it out as long as possible, but only glitches for me when I return to Cell3 Starting island

Something else I noticed. In the game the sun doesn’t rise and set in the right place. And the compass is pretty useless. Its always been this way so in order to get correct directions you simply put something in the water and it drifts south with the current.
That also no longer works for me. I place something in the water and it ends back by the shore regardless of where I place it.

I tried changing the perspective to third person, both in-game, and from the menu, and neither has any effect on when the bug triggers. It triggers at the same time, in the same way, every time.
Same here lots of interaction, just in the middle of taking care of my Island, several different play through through the same thing can’t find any relationship about what I was doing when it happened. Please fix, game so fun, frustration.
I sometimes hear bats in the middle of the day while I’m swimming underwater.
